Goose Game came out in 2020, and its simple gameplay involving completing objectives that aim to terrorize an otherwise peaceful town has piqued my interest ever since. Thanks to this game I now have greater insight as to the day-to-day operations of a typical goose. I also learned that geese actually are as chaotic as everyone claims.
I completed this game in just about three hours and, while it was short, it packed a lot of charm into those few hours. The goose will make its way through five different “levels” – sections of the town, such as a garden, shops, and a pub – and complete various tasks specific to the level before access is granted to proceed to the next one. I did fairly normal things for a goose: locked a gardener out of his garden, stole a toy from a child, and terrorized an elderly man. There’s more, of course, but those are just some of the highlights.
The game played like a puzzle that I found to be very enjoyable and clever. It was important to know when the appropriate time was to honk, or to make a beeline in a certain direction before the mean townspeople caught me. The visuals were charming and while there wasn’t much narrative, the exasperated animations of the people as I stole their underwear or prized pumpkins was priceless.
There isn’t much else for me to say other than that I enjoyed experiencing life from the goose perspective and since I also like puzzle games, I’m glad I finally tried this one. While I was hoping for more levels, the game does open up with bonus objectives after completing all of the main tasks.
